Hen with spurs - Looks like she ripped it off??

Spur fell off while in recovery. She is now wrapped up and back with her sisters!


Hello -

I have a hen - Janice - who I noticed was bleeding this am. The pictures aren’t the best but her spur looks like it was caught on something and tore.

I’ve cleaned with warm water and vetericyn. Put raw honey from my hives on it. Wrapped and then since it was still bleeding, put some flour on (out of corn starch).

Anything else I need to do? She’s currently in the chicken hospital in my basement with two other feathered friends

They’ve been confined to the run and coop as they won’t walk on snow. I didn’t see blood anywhere else but the roost bar. So I’m not sure where she cut it or tore it.

And how long should I keep her separate? Or once the bleeding stops, give her back to her flock?

She is finally part of the roosters squad and I don’t want her to be reset in the pecking order. They took a loooong time to finally bond and submit.

Cornstarch helps stop bleeding. Just clean it off, apply some ointment and add her back in.
