Hen With Swelling Around 1 Eye - What Is This? UPDATE - POST #9

After searching today through the eye related threads on BYC, I found several mentioning uses of VetRX. This appeals to me because several of the threads mentioned symptoms much like our guinea's - which could be related to eye worm, infections, colds, etc. And because we have it on hand and the info sheet in the box does indicate it can be used for several of these things. So we decided to try that now. We've tried gentamicin eye drops on her and we've tried the BNP (triple antibiotic) ointment on her as she's had this about 3 weeks already. We do also have the terramycin ointment so can try that later. Someone also mentioned using DE which I have but we'll keep that as a later option I guess. I'll report back if we have any luck with anything.

I would never use DE in or around anyone's eye. DE is fossilized shells of diatoms that are taken from deposits in the earth. I would think that would do more harm than good in an eye??? I am going to add VetRX, terramycin ointment, and Tylan 50 soluble to my chicken first aid kit, none of which I have now.

chickmommar - good luck with the VetRX. It's a terrible feeling when one of your pets is not well and you don't know what to do for it. I hope the VetRX works for you, and thank you for keeping us posted.
