Hen with Swollen Eye

One of my hen's nostrils seemed blocked and gunky the other day and ive given her antibiotics but since her eye has swollen shut to the point it is about the size of her head and its weeping and she has been really lethargic and hanging back a lot. Im worried she wont make it. Why is this happening? What can I do?

Your case sounds pretty severe, but I have treated hens and meat chicks with Vetrx dabbed on their combs, waffles and around their ears. It has worked well, but others have had luck with antibiotics also.

Might be some type of fowl pox that did not get treated in time ,if it is chlorine silver will heal it up fast. I would wait for more ideas of what it is first though,Because fowl pox tends to be smaller and crusty.

Thank you and yes thats what I thought. She did get fowl pox at one stage and a while after her cheek blew up but she recovered and Ive never seen anything like this will her eye...?

I havent seen any black crusty sored on her though

Ouch.

How long has it been like that? She might have lost her eye. Hopefully, someone else will chime in soon.

ETA: Before her eye got to that condition, did it start out watery? Does her nose run?
