I have a question also..recently we found one of our older LF Cochin hens with a closed and swollen eye. The other eye seemed alright. It appeared as if her eyes had been pecked or somehow poked out, we tried to open her eye and it was very difficult, we figured it was infected. She had lost a lot of weight and I soon realized she seemed to be unable to see out of her good eye. We brought her in the house and I put food down on the floor for her. (I thought her reason for being underweight could be because she was in with a rather large group and she may have dropped to the bottom of the pecking order and simply not gotten much to eat) She didn't touch the food, and stayed in basically the same spot all day. My mom suggested she seemed to not see well in her good eye. I sat down in front of her and waved in front of both eyes, she didn't respond at all. I don't think she even knew I was there. We had to leave for a few days the next day so we put her back in the coop. When we got back we decided to put her down. I feel terrible that I didn't spot her sooner. Our older Cochin hens eyes are a bit sunken in so I never noticed, and we have a large flock, which we are reducing, so that we can take better care of our flock at a more manageable size. I figured it was just an infection..could she have had IB?
