Hen with vision problems, growths - UPDATED HAD TO PUT HER DOWN

MotherJean, thanks again for the info. I'm gonna read it later. The vet came & supported me 100% to put her to sleep. I'm a MESS!!!! He said even if we tried anything, it would only patch her up for a little while. I never thought that I would be typing these words. My little girl wasn't even a year old. She had a whole life ahead of her!!! She is & will be sooooo missed. Going to be a rough few weeks. RIP my dear, sweet little Sookie. I love & miss you so much!!!

I am so sorry to hear about Sookie! You obviously loved her alot. We have lost a few hens (our favorites) this year and its truly devistating.

I can see how special Sookie was even from the pictures of her when she is not well.

I don't know why her loss has effected me so much, but you know, I am crying right along with you.

Thank you everyone for your sincere thoughts & words. I still haven't been able to stop crying. I even told the vet later on that after he left, I started to go crazy. I was seriously gonna call him to see if he could bring her back. I just wanted one more day with her. I'm thinking did I do the wrong thing? Sure, it would've been selfish, but I just love her THAT much. I can't even go in the backyard now. Anytime I was out there, Sookie would come out of her pen and follow me all around. I'd be kneeling down weeding, & she'd fly up onto my back. In fact she just did that Friday, the day before her condition really worsened. I mean, minutes before we put her down, she was preening herself. I was so torn. I'm glad I was with her though everything, holding her & petting her. But a part of me is still soooooo mad.

Mad that she got that sick. Don't know how or why, but she didn't deserve it. This is horrible. I'm sorry I'm babbling. So now her buddy Pippie, a silkie hen, is broody again in the coop, all alone. I love Pippie, but we got her when she was 3-4 months old, and wasn't socialized as much. So, she's a little wild still. Sookie I had since she was 2 days old. I am getting a chick, just have to decide what they have at the Agway. I'll post for some questions on another forum.
Sookie, I love & miss you soooo much. There will never be another like you. I can't wait to see you again someday.
