Hen Won’t open eyes

Old hen won’t open her eyes, now day 2. No additional signs of illness. Other hens in the flock are just fine. Is she failing?

Probably, especially if her comb is darker than usual. Lethargic and dark comb is what I call a DCW : Dead chicken walking. But, occasionally they surprise you. If she is dying I hope she makes up her mind to do it quickly. Best of luck.

Sorry about your hen. How old is she?Has she laid eggs recently? Can you offer her some water with electrolytes to get her drinking? Is she lying in a box? Is her tail up or down? Can you feel if her breast bone is sharp or if she has lost weight? Is she pooping? What does it look like? How does her crop feel? Hopefully, she is just feeling under the weather, and you can get her to perk up with some food and water.
