Hen won’t roost

Hard to tell from the photos, but do the angle of the roosts position birds on top to poop on birds sitting at the bottom? When you said the roosts were 18" apart, I was thinking horizontally... have you looked at the birds when roosting to make sure no one from one roost can easily reach over to another one on the roost?

I just noticed you mentioned this wasn't the original roosting set up. What was the original set up like? The change might've been enough to throw her off that she felt "safer" picking a new spot.

I’m pretty sure that when the ones are above they can’t poop on the board below. Most of the time they face the door so butts are farther away

This is the “porch” where dumpling sleeps. The door to coop is to the right

Not clear to me where this porch is in relation to coop door.

Looks pretty tight to me. Do you plan on adding more birds to that roost? I know if hens feel unsafe, they will roost elsewhere.

It’s not tight but she is roosting now. She missed her window no added a window to the front and she’s fine now. The young ones roost together in the separate coop
