Hen won't stand up.

About a week ago I noticed my hen limping. I checked her over really well and couldn't find any injuries. Over the next couple days she got to where she wouldn't leave the coup. I separated her from the rest of the flock now for 3 days. I've been giving her vitamins, antibiotics, and probiotics. Her vent is dirty and her stool looks soft but not completely liquid. Any ideas on what could be going on? I brought her out for some fresh air this evening and she did stand on her own for a few minutes.

Welcome to BYC. How old is your hen? Is she laying eggs? Was she vaccinated for Mareks disease? If she hasn't been wormed, I would probably start with that. Clean her vent area up, and see if there are any bare spots, redness or any white patches around it that might be vent gleet. If she is pretty young, under 20 weeks old, she could be suffering from coccidiosis, which is treated with Corid, a cattle medicine from the feed store. If she is older, it could be a reproductive problem, such as egg yolk peritonitis or internal laying.

I don't know how old she is because I found her about 2 years ago and she was already full grown then. So also not sure if she was vaccinated. She laid an egg about 3 days ago and none since. I'll bring her out for some fresh air this morning and clean her up. Thank you for the advice, I'll post what I find.

Here are a couple pics of her. She did stand a bit this morning until my rooster came over then she laid down. I didn't feel any hard

spots like an egg or anything inside her that might be stuck.

Has she lost weight in her breast area, or is her lower abdomen full and squishy? Hens this age and old can suffer from internal laying or egg yolk peritonitis, among other reproductive disorders that can cause interruption or sporadic laying, lameness, diarrhea or strange droppings, collection of fluid in the lower abdomen (ascites,) and a decrese in weight. I would worm her, give her some chopped egg or bits of canned tuna along with her layer feed, and put some vitamins and probiotics in her food or water 3 times a week. Also check her skin for mites or lice, since she looks a bit pale.

She is still the same. I dusted her well with DE for any mites. Been giving her extra protein, antibiotics, and probiotics. Her stomach doesn't feel abnormal. She's eating and drinking ok. I put both right next to her. She just won't stand and when she tries to walk she limps very badly and has to flap her dings to keep from falling over. It's like her legs hurt her.

Poultry vitamins or vitamins and minerals may help if she is having a deficiency that is causing her leg problems. You can also offer her 81mg of aspirin twice daily orally for pain. Have you noticed swelling or redness in her legs or joints, or any dark spots on her foot pads?
