Hens and egg

Question, I have four hens about two weeks away from laying eggs, my question is someone told me I should keep them in a small area not let them out in a bigger pen,any comments or advice?

I would let them into their run but if they free range all day they might lay their eggs outside if they haven't been trained to use the nesting boxes. If they lay in the run then you might want to confine them to where the nesting boxes are. However if you put a golf ball in one of the nesting boxes they will probably use that.
