Hens are getting beat up. Help?

Nutrition is key with Chickens...If not a Balanced diet with the proper amounts of protein behavioural problems happen...No less than 18% protein...Space does not seam to be your issue...No treats or scraps except maybe once a week..

Making a rooster more aggressive, or getting another one that might be is not the answer. What needs to happen is to get to the root of the problem. Chickens don't peck/pick each other for no reason. Usually that reason has something to do with feed and/or space. Aart has some good questions. How does the feed get into the metal container on the wall? Does it come in bags? If so, there should be a tag on the bag that says what's in it. Are the chickens in the coop all week except for Sunday, or are they allowed to be in the run during the week? How big is the run? What does it look like? Are there places for the birds lower on the pecking order to get away from the more dominant birds? Maybe pallets or branches for them to jump up on to get out of the way? Multiple feeding and watering stations? Are the males constantly chasing them around? Over mating them? There really are a lot of factors at play here.

These are very good questions i didn't think of. Thanks bobbi-j

When you buy the feed to put in the metal feeder, does it not have a tag on it?
It's pretty important to know what the feed is.
Are you located in the USA?

That's plenty big, if you actually measured it.
Curious about the out on weekends and put up on sunday night.
Are they kept in the coop and run all week....or just the coop....or...??
Do you live where you birds live and tend to them daily?
Measured the coop size, for the coop, and it's 10 by 8, and the run's about the same.
They are kept in the coop and run all week, and I do tend to my birds daily and they live about a few yards from my back door.
I bought the feed a few days ago, and I'm not sure what you mean by a tag. I indeed do live in the USA

The feed bag should have a paper tag sewn onto one end that states all of the information you need about the nutrients in the feed as well as the ingredients list. The bag it's self likely has a brand and feed type printed on it. If you purchased the feed a few days ago, do you still have the bag? Remember where you bought it? Remember what color the bag was?

It's Feather Fixer from Nature Wise. It had a picture of a flock and a bit of purple and tan. I still have the bag, actually.
