Hens cleaning out nest boxes

If you look carefully, you'll see the bar in front of the nests.
They seem to like it for ease of walking back and forth to choose the nest they like.

I don't know if it's necessary, but others have it also.

How high is the lip on your nest? Hens like to scratch around and rearrange the nesting material. If the lip is not high enough they will empty the nest box of all bedding, any fake eggs, and any real eggs in there.
