I would look in to the clear panels then! You can make holes in them & secure with zip ties so you don't have to make anything permanent.I had no idea that was needed! I thought that the cold air blowing in at night was bad for them? And can I only keep the door half open?
nd thank you so much! I didn't realize the wind could also give them it. My chicks love ice and try to eat anything plastic tho, so could this become an issue?
Thank you so much for all of your help! I'm definitely going to look into that, and that was my exact concern with leaving it open.I would look in to the clear panels then! You can make holes in them & secure with zip ties so you don't have to make anything permanent.
I would only leave it barely cracked.. but I close mine up all the way at night! I would hate for a predator to find it & use that as leverage.![]()
HiI noticed recently that my hen's comb has been whitening. They were getting to the end of their good supply so I originally thought it was just oyster shell powder, but days later it's still there, and now I'm starting to see some whitening on my other hen as well. Recently the second hen has also been pecking the first's comb to the point of bleeding, what I initially thought caused it, but I'm not sure now. I checked the first hen's diarrhea (which has been too liquidy too often) for any worms and couldn't find any, but can't bring them to a vet. What could be the cause and/or prevention of this? I'm really worried.

I noticed you’re in NJ. The coop you have does need more ventilation but be careful not to add ventilation where drafts will blow in on the hens at night. I know here in upstate NY it’s always windy. I cut my vent holes too big and it made my coop too cold. The hens started to get frostbite after I added the ventilation because the wind was blowing on them.I noticed recently that my hen's comb has been whitening. Oh no I hope you’re able to rid of themI just had a hen this happened to as well! I thought frost bite at first, I added vitamins to their water and made some changes to the coop. It has improved greatly and the color has almost completely returned, but I have also now discovered my girls have mitesso that may be something to consider and check her for just in case…
