This morning when I let my hens out, one of them had some dark reddish/purplish-ness on her comb. Of my three girls, she is the only one who has a comb which is big enough to flop over. About half of her comb(all of the part that flops over) was purple. This is actually the second time this has happened. Both times there had just been a rainy night with temps of about 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
So, my first thought was that it was a mild case of frostbite. Buuuuut, at noon I went back outside to check on them, and her comb is completely normal colored again.
I thought that even mild cases took a few days to heal. Is it frostbite or what?
Extra info: she is an 11-12 month old, Buff Orpington hen.
