Hens eating their eggs. ..

Hi everyone.

Just looking for some advice! I stupidly dropped an egg the other day in the coop and the hens were all swarmed around me at the time and annihilated the smashed egg. The next day I caught one of them trying to crack the egg open just after she'd laid it and today when I went out to collect the eggs they'd eaten two of them! How can I break this habit?! Im taking the eggs out everyday but I'm not always here through out the day to take them out immediately.

There are experienced chicken keepers who routinely break any "poopy" eggs on the coop floor for the hens to eat, and never develop a flock of egg eaters. just so you know.

The "final" solution is probably a rollaway nest. Here is an article about dealing with this:
