would a rir or barred or white rock hen put on more meat that a leghorn roo in 25 weeks? i like my leghorn roos for friers im jus trien barnch out find a cheap chicken that i can roast NOT A CORNISH ROCK! wich i can get straigh run chicks from the farm stores for cheap! if hens would put on enuff meat at 24-25 weeks for me?

i have flock 30 hens already layin dont need extra hens i keep all my hens same age that lay reason i ask is because as i stated before that i can straigh run so cheap at the farm store Hence name straight run mix hens and roos they dont have a big full of roos or id get them

I haven't butchered any rir hens, but my 22 weekers look a little small to me for butchering. However, the 20 week rir cockerels were great. I roasted them both. You might be able to get boys even cheaper than a straight run.

i would get all cockerals if i could but the feed stores that have chicks either have pullets or straight run, no i can get roos cheap if i order them straight from the hatchery but i really dont need alot of them i raise my leghorn roos and replacement layers in large amounts i reall jus want around 25-30 for roasters so getting chicks locally would be better why i asked on the hens ive never raised much except leghorns and few other breeds but had them sold before they laid or were big nuff to eat
