I have 4 rir hens and 4 barred rock hens and i was getting 4 eggs a day at the least consistently. Usually even before 11 o clock. Now for the past two weeks i have yet to get a single egg. The hens show no signs of sickness and are acting fine and dandy just like always but no eggs. They aren't moulting. It has gotton much cooler and we are getting about 12 hours of sunlight right now.. A friends flock is still laying normally.. Any suggestions or anyone had this experience?

I don't know how much "advice" I can give, this is my first year with chickens. I have had similar issues though. I have 11 pullets...8 or 9 are laying age. We were getting between 5 and 7 eggs a day then it got cooler and the days got shorter. I haven't had an egg from my BR for almost 2 weeks. My EE quit laying almost 3 wks ago and we're getting somewhere between 2 and 5 eggs a day now. I've started giving them BOSS seed and butternut squash/cabbage. It does seem to help since the days that I don't have the veggies available they go down on eggs for a few days.

I'm debating over whether or not to add lighting to the situation...Hope it at least helps to know that your not alone.

    Good Luck! [IMG]

I have RIR's and Isa Browns. My RIR's are 3 + yrs old and not laying well, (time for freezer camp) but my Isa Browns are awesome. They started laying at 16 weeks and are now 1½ yrs old. I average 5-6 eggs a week from each one. New Isa Brown chicks due this weeek. I love my Isa Browns.

I have also seen a huge production hit the last few months.... I live in Nevada and thought it was the heat, then the cool weather came and still down to 2-4 eggs a day when I have 12-13 hens. I did switch to lay-mash and no scratch and it has helped the last couple of days.

I have one RIR she has not laid since June when she started a severe moult. She was practically naked for months. Now she just got a good load of feathers back. Then I put the new chicks in the coop and she darn stopped laying again after only giving me 3 eggs in months!!!!!! [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
My other girls have gone off the lay also as they are on the moult now too!!!!!!! NO EGGS!!!!!!!!! I have showed them all the oven several times but they just don't get the message??????????????????
