You know what gets me? People going into something and not knowing a thing about it. Please, get a book on chickens and read up on the requirements of raising chickens. For gosh sake, these are living creatures and deserve to be taken care of by the people that buy them. Having too small of a coop and only being fed twice a day...NOT GOOD! What do you expect? Over-crowding and starving chickens that have to turn to eating each other to survive. How terribly sad. I'm sorry, but it just makes me cringe at the thought of those chickens not even having room enough to roost comfortably.
I hope you have learned a lesson in all this. Good luck in the future.

Yes, the coop and run were tooooo small. And food should be available 24/7. It's good that you posted to find out what the problem could be but please, everyone everywhere, research before having lives dependent on you. So much sad unnecessary suffering could be avoided.

Look I just wanted to see if you all know what the problem was the chickens would not have been in the small coop in the fist place if they were not already killing eachother in the large pen (16x20) with the rest of the flock. I am not starving my chickens they have plenty of food and have never not had food of some kind in their pen. I thought this forum was to help people (even new ones) that are trying to raise chickens. I am not a mean person and have tons of animals that depend on me. I have 10 dogs, 2 cats, 12 goats, tons of exotic animals and just needed help for my chickens. I will not post here again for help I will find it some other way. Thank you to those who did try and help me.

Don't mean to be harsh, but we get so many posts about chickens dying that could have been avoided. It's hard to see time after time. We were told the chickens were in a 3x3 coop....that's the info we went by. I do hope you stick around, cuz this is a great place to learn.

Flight, I am sorry for what happened with your chickens and you received a lot of great advise on pen size and optimal feed. I am also wondering if the chickens that were consumed could have died for other reasons and the remaining chickens decided to dine. It is a natural thing for birds to consume meat...they may have done so after the bird died. Did you consider this possibility?

I have thought about that and is why I chose to separate them from my other (already laying flock). They do not seem to have any problems (other then they are not laying yet) don't look sickly or they are not thin (so I am not starving them) they are just mean chickens. That is why I was asking in the original link if any one know if these were especial mean chickens. I know they peck me all of the time and I am guessing each other too. The only reason they were in the small temp. Coop was to see if I needed to give them their own coop and run if I could put them back into the population. But the folks here do not like to "People going into something and not knowing a thing about it" then I am at the wrong place. I did not know anything about alot of things that I have done in the past and found the help that I needed through folks that did. However this is the first time I have tried something new and been criticized for it. I just wanted my own small farm and chickens seemed like the thing to do. You are right I did get a lot of great advise and appreciate that but I don’t need the criticism too when I am just trying to solve a problem. I have changed everything I am going to and will hope for the best.
