Hi one of my hens keeps laying soft eggs. I’ve been giving them oyster shell in their feed but the problem still persists. What should I do? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

More info needed before recommendations given:
How old is bird, what breed, and how long has she been laying???
How long has she been laying soft eggs?

What all, and how, exactly, are you feeding?
Do not mix oyster shell into feed,
best to have it in a separate container always available.

Flock size(numbers, ages, genders)?
Coop(size in feet by feet with pics)?

They are RI reds and they just started laying about a week now. I feed them dumor layer feed and a scratch mix along with the shell and Yogurt twice a week.

I am having this problem also. One of my Cream Legbars has not laid a real egg in about 2 weeks but every couple of days I find a water balloon egg that I think may be hers. They are all eating layer feed, free ranging, have grit provided etc. She is the only one struggling.

Is there first time laying?
Are they older just coming out of winter slowdown?

Feed your oystershell free choice not mixed in their feed.

My guess is her system just is not in sync yet since they just started laying

They have just started laying. Thanks for the advice will definitely be backing off on the scratch. And separating the scratch.

It's likely stress related, assuming they aren't pullets at POL nor old hens. Something is causing alot of stress to the hen/s so check for predators, change in flock/pecking order, or space. Otherwise it could be related to the hen being overweight
