I have 2 BLR Wyandotte hens, 3 Araucana hens, and 1 Araucana rooster they were born in early March so they are approx. 6-7 months old. NONE of them have laid any eggs yet. The rooster is chasing the hens in the morning when they come down off the roost. He chases them until he pecks them. I was wondering why he does this? and if his behavior could be delaying the hens beginning to lay eggs? I saw the rooster in the egg box a few weeks ago fluffing the nest and moving straw around with his beak. SO I thought they would lay soon......but still nothing. ??? I am getting impatient! 2 days ago I threatened them with the crock pot if they didn't lay eggs soon.....so maybe that will get them started!

If they were hatched in early March, then they would be 6 months old. You should start seeing eggs in the next 2-3 weeks.

And no matter what you do...I can guarantee you will not get eggs from the rooster.

Good thing for him I wasn't expecting any! So you don't think his harrassment is delaying the hens egg laying? I thought the Wyandottes would start laying at about 4 months old?
