OK, here are my guesses - these are 4 week old golden laced Wyandottes (actually, four weeks and two days - not that it matters). They were straight run, and it's been a guessing game. Ten of these guys go to new homes next weekend (10 days) and I want to be sure that the four I keep are definitely hens. So I appreciate any input... Here are my guesses - what do you guys in the know think?

1. I'm assuming these are both hens because of lack of comb/wattles - even if they don't have equal feathering.

2. I'm assuming these are both roos because of the combs/wattles.

3. This is my favorite girl... I'm pretty sure she's a she...

4. This guy feathered out very early so I assumed hen - but look at the comb and wattles. And he/she's bigger than everyone (always has been). So is she really a he?

5. Not feathering out as quickly, but possibly a hen based on the comb/wattles?

6. Assuming a roo...

7. I dunno. Hen or roo?

8. And another I dunno - hen or roo?

Thanks anyone who can help enlighten me. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Thanks for posting this, KD....I have three five week old GLW chicks, that I picked up from the Meyer Hatchery as day old chicks....one is a roo, and I've never been sure which one was the rooster. Now I think I know! Very strange because the little chick that I thought was the rooster still doesn't have all his feathering, but his comb is bigger and pinker than the other two. Now when I get home I'm going to look for those little wattles.......

You have really helped me!

Sharon (Oh, I'm from Ohio too....about 20 miles south of Canton.)

So Sharon, I'm curious to hear if you figured out which is your roo... I'm not entirely sure on what all of mine are; some my jury is still out.

Oh, we're not too far from you. We're about an hour southeast of Cleveland...
