So, here's a question. Collagen gel seems to be slightly unattainable. Expensive, wasn't in the store i went to, and I'm not leaving home often. Is gelatin almost all collagen? I have a pound of plain gelatin powder. Can we work with this for the exposed neck muscle spot?

All right, so i didn't follow anyone's advice 100%. Ellis got her third dose of augmentin this evening. I rebandaged her. And she ate some more. And she got part of a bandage out. I think it's from the current bandage.

This time around she got bluekote, a little bit of vetrycin, triple antibiotic salve, and ... a mix of turmeric and gelatin powders on top of the the antibiotic. Then a gauze pad with lanolin and vetrycin, vet wrap.
Everything smells fine. She smells like iodine.

Then she went out in her run, took her medicine, and got put away. I heard her eating some more food.

The photo of her neck is at 7:20 this evening. I think she had already gotten rid of the gauze pad

Does anyone know where the post is of someone who nursed a chick ro health after he had a hole pecked in the top of his head? The hole kept healing smaller and smaller until it finally closed.

We still didn't find the right one. Apparently there have been many holes in many heads

The glue idea is because she still needs more stitches.

I'm tempted to cut off more feathers by the wound down by her chest. I can't really see what's going on down there. But it appears to be doing fine. I'd like to cut them, but I think I'll leave it alone, The stitching went ok in that area. If i cut the feathers she'll be more likely to get cold. And I've already seen that i don't know how to bandage her breast.

Pretty intense picture. And it healed with bluekote? Good. How did you clean it?

Yes! Only blue kote. During her recovery I really had to bath her everyday due to her not being able to clean herself properly because of her poor neck. All I used was a good antibacterial soap, and dried it well, let it breathe for a few minutes then blue kote it again. The blue kote doesn't come off, so if anyone uses this remember it stains, so don't think you aren't cleaning it good enough. I was honestly so lucky with her. And I never took her away from the flock either. Only too bathe. She was already under so much stress. Here is Carole today, happy and healthy, but ALWAYS ALWAYS playing in mud. Back and forth between their pool, their pond, their mudhole and the littles pool. Also, the other two are Darrel and Kami it was extremely hot where we live today and they decided staying in their coop in front of their fan was the best way to spend it. Put 5 dozen minnows in their pond, they didn't even care

Ellis has really good mobility with her neck and i don't want to lose that, so I'm going to keep going with the combo-style treatment plan. Bluekote is now in the mix, but I'm going to continue with the moist plan for the bulk of the neck. I would like to avoid daily chicken baths if possible_

A new day, and Ellis continues to act like herself. No photos this time around. All the purple is a little disconcerting! It's sort of like iodine's effect. There is one area that i was a little concerned about, but as i worked on her, my hands turned the same color green, turmeric+purple gentian. Her exposed neck muscle looks a little more moist than it has been. Everything smells clean.
I poured iodine everywhere. Sprayed Vetericyn (trying to learn how to spell this stuff) also. I mixed antibiotic salve with the turmeric/gelatin powder mix. It was too thick, so i mixed in some veterycin. The gelatin swelled to a nice consistency. I smeared it in the holes. She shook most out before i could bandage it up. I tried again, this time only vetericyn with the powder mix, got it on the exposed neck, smeared some lanolin cream on a piece of gauze and wrapped it up.

I've gained a couple of tips on bandaging neck injuries.

One is finish the ends behind her. All ends and white things hanging in front will be pecked at until removed. This includes white creams.

Another is to stretch out her neck to be able to put a bandage on it. She ducks down and makes her neck small. If i lift up her breast, she stands up higher and stretches out her neck a little. Then I can put my thumb and forefinger around her neck, palm towards her, and gently lift. (Her right side is towards me; I'm using my right hand.) All of the sudden, there's something to wrap the vet wrap around.
