Does anyone know why hens sometimes squat down when you walk up the them and just sit there? Sometimes my Wyandotte will just sit still, and other times just ignore me when I walk by them. Just curious, it's kinda weird, her just sitting there looking at me.

She is showing submission to you. Same as she would to a rooster for breeding.

One of mine will do that also - I love it! I say " Sky sit" (that is her name) and she will and let you pet her...........

haha! I hope she's not saying that!! I was wondering why she just sat there. Letting me pet her...But it makes sense kinda...But I don't have a rooster. Does it have anything to do with them getting broody?

ours does that to... and we have a rooster....Once Dad nearly stepped on one when it did that.

ours did that last year too and never showed signs of going broody. From what I've read when they go broody they stop any mating signs. I'm beginning to think mine is starting to go broody and she recently stopped squatting for me. I sometimes just grab her back and push on her to make her happy, don't know if it helps her psychologically at all, but figured it probably doesn't hurt.
