I have black copper marans and one of my groups have all but stopped laying. it is a group of four hens that laid 3 or 4 a day until the middle of june, and have not started again. maybe one a day they are 10 months old.

I'm interested to see what someome with more experience than me has to say. I have 4 different breeds that are 26 wks and stopped laying over a week ago. I just figured it is from the heat. it has just been too hot here. sorry I cant help but I'll follow this thread for advice too...

Mine have pretty much stopped laying too, but it hasn't been terribly hot here (just a few days). I decided it was a food issue, and they were starving themselves.

My neighbor complained about this also but our 6 girls have cut production in half. 3 eggs a day is better than nothing. Maybe Obama ordered production reduction...........

It has been cooler than normal here and my girls are still eating great, they are free range and I feed them eggmaker I have started keeping them locked up to see if they might be laying somewhere else but still no eggs!

Thanks!!!

My three Buff Orp hens are 12 months old and have stopped laying in the past couple of weeks. Same feed (laying mash plus some oyster shell is available to them), plenty of fresh water, free ranging in the afternoon, but no eggs. Do they just take a break from laying after a certain number of months? Could they be molting at this time of year? They look a bit ragged, but I haven't been finding a lot of feathers on the floor of their coop. Our summer temperatures have not been extreme this year.
