Hi everyone ,

I was now already for a long time thinking about the noises chickens make after they have laid their egg ... Also why is there such a difference in younger hens and older ones ?

I have experienced now that the younger the hen is , the higher her volume sort of speak , I have more older hens of the same breeds that in fact just laid their egg , stayed in the box for a little bit and just got out again , no big deal while some breeds or younger hens especially start to 'upset ' the whole flock and I also know from other chickenowners that one hen makes noise and another not at all , no matter how old or young .

so what I did notice about the ones making noise is that you can really compare that with some kind of panic ? they make the same noise and the flock even replies to it , also being a bit anxious , how come and is it in fact the same sound / language of some sort of panic ? especially when for example a young hen lays the very first egg and starts to make noise , you soon hear the entire cook going nuts ? I'm curious to what others might have noticed on the egg laying behaviors of their flock in fact and especially " what do you think it is all about for the hens that start to make noise ? what are they telling ? " are they upset ? "
just a curious mind and chickenfriend ( and their slave ;) )

To answer this question, let us assume the position of the chicken.

"You should have seen that MASSIVE egg I laid!!!!"
"Omg, where??"
"Over there!"
"WOW THAT'S A COOL EGG!"
"I know!"
"I love the speckles."
"It took forever!"

Anyway, perhaps some of them mistook it for a warning call. It sounds quite similar.

the way you tell it is quite funny but it does make sense indeed :D
When I had one of my first hens that laid suddenly she could not stop making noises and the other one was looking at her like " where ? what ? ow nothing ok " and she went back to scratching in the dirt but when I showed that hen " ow look my little chick is al grown up ! and laid the egg right in front of her while she just got calm she started again haha ! she was not happy seeing that egg for as far as I noticed :p so I took the egg away and she was first still making that noise and just stopped when she realized " ow that horrible thing is gone " LOL the second egg she laid she made the coop go insane ! she lays like every other hen and wow everybody is in panic XD

I've read one theory that said, in the wild a hen would go off to lay her egg away from the flock and the flock would move off while she was gone as they browsed for food, so the eggsong is her way of reconnecting with her flock and figuring out where they are. I also find they yell more at the start of the laying season and taper off in their enthusiasm as summer wears on.

Hi ! that is interesting and also makes sense actually , perhaps that is why my free ranged birds were always more noisy ? and about the start ? OMG ! indeed it is !!! Especially a few breeds have it more than others ! and its really noisy , each switch of season to sunshine ? expect yourself to some noisy upcoming days and often even weeks ! usually here it took up to +- 2 weeks that they were more noisy while I couldnt even imagine they could go more noisy ! I find it just interesting they start to yell after laying eggs , altough I also wonder about the ones that just lay and step out of the boxes and that is it , no sounds , just pushed out my egg , life goes on , where is the food boss ! odd ...
