Hens turning into ROOs ***Pic Added***

I purchased 22 peeps between April and May. 7 were from a feed store and all was to be pullets...well one turned out to be a roo. A lovely mahogany EE...found him a home with family. The rest were purchased from a feed store and I felt so sad for there living conditions that I snatched some up. I got 6 when they were real young and got a golden phoenix roo which I found him the best home with a fellow chicken lover, She wants my 2 hens too. Well today I had another 'hen' crow. For the last month or so me and DH was wondering on her, really looked like a roo but was told over and over it was a hen. Well guess they were wrong so now need to find MR Dolly a new home. He is a lovely EE too with COLOR!! Very pretty. Never crowed till today and he is 17 weeks. I live right in town and cant have roos but some of these hens can be worse with there "laying" song.

Bummer! But at least he will go somewhere good thanks to you!

It happens to us all, btw, this year I got at least 11 roo's from my feed store chikcks that were supposedly sexed at the hatchery.

AND I suspect more in the making!

Yes, some hatches are bad too. I had 9 out of 11 chicks that turned out to be roos.........

sometimes if you only keep hens the dominant hen will stop laying and start crowing

Yeah, unfortunately they can't guarantee 100% that their sexing of chicks will be correct. I think the percentage is between 80-90% with large breed birds depending on the skill of the sexer.
