Hello - looking for some advice. I have a bantam wyandotte who has a rather bare bottom. I had a good look at her yesterday and couldn't see any sign of mites or lice, but dusted her with DE. She has a lot of new feathers coming in by the looks. But today I notice that her vent looks a bit red and bulgy. It isn't like this all the time. She does seem to be preening a lot. She was broody for quite a while, but we broke her and she's been back with everyone else for the last week. Eating and drinking and active. She hasn't laid for a long time due to being broody.

OK - It isn't red and isn't out like that all the time. I've seen her pooing.

My chicken had the same thing but then it seemed to get better after a day or 2. She still hasn’t layed yet but all that matters to me is that she’s alive and healthy

Thanks mine just laid today first time for over a month, May be it was just that?

I am not a vet but it does look like a partial prolapse. It might be papilloma, which can be a growth around the cloaca. There is a test where you can apply a little vinegar to the red tissue, and if it is a papilloma, it will blanch or become paler, temporarily. Then wash it off with a splash of water. I would keep an eye on it, for any straining or coming out. Here is a link to read about prolapses, and you can look for the section on page 2 under “cloacal” for the bit about papilloma and the vinegar test:
