Her comb and wattles are purply instead of red! she's sick

thank you so much! I am not very good with my google... I never find what I am looking for.

so, nobody knows about the egg thing? what I'm suposed to do? do I give her a bath?

I don't see a downside to giving her a bath...they seem to like it and it tends to help them relax. Just make sure she has a warm place to dry off after (or a gentle blow-dry

).

Well, this is interesting, after hearing about your hen guzzling water. My oldest Buff Orp has been laying internally for 10 months. Now, she has developed sour crop, probably from her body being heavily depleted and her systems beginning to shut down. She was chugging water just a bit ago, kept on and on and on till I thought she'd upchuck and choke. It was almost like she was trying to do that, like a dog eating grass when they have an upset stomach to bind the contents so they could be expelled. Not saying that's what she was doing, but it was just odd that I now have one doing the same camel imitation.

that is crazy that yours is being a camel too LOL!

well, today she is less camel like. she isn't constantly drinking today... but she is now eating! yes! and now she is even eating alittle from her dish, not just my hand! yippie! caught her preening too. and she tried to eat my DD's hair.. yeah, she's feeling better HA HA HA

she still has a ways to go I think.

does anyone know if I can move her down to the basement at some point? poop in the living room isn't exactly the best smelling thing... it is cooler down there so I dont want to put her down there until sh'es out of the woods, right? but WHEN is it safe to put her down there in the cooler climate?

How much cooler is it? I think I'd move her during the daytime when I could go down and check every so often. As long as she's not doing the hunched up and fluffed out miserable chook thing it's probably not too cold and she'll be fine. Might get a little lonely though, they're flock critters and really don't do well for long periods of time by themselves. Glad to hear she's feeling a bit better and is eating again.

Cyn--So sorry to hear you're having to go thru this again!

man, if only I could fit the cage into the coop......... Dh is really completely disliking this. and its going to be another 3 weeks right? a week on the meds and then 2 weeks not to eat the eggs? I'm not going to mix her eggs with the others and not eat any of them.

I've heard of people putting food dye around the vent so that they can tell which hen laid which egg, but I haven't done it myself so I'm not sure how well it works or how often you have to apply the food coloring. It might be something to look into though once she's off the meds and is feeling well enough to go back to the coop.

good idea! hmmm...

I'll post a question here but I'll post it elsewhere as well since nobody else seems to find this thread LOL! and you wont be around till this evening again..... it is about grit. does she need me to get her grit since she's eating alot of eggs and yogurt? Yogurt is eating yogurt right now as I speak LOL! too funny. ehhehe

I don't think they need grit for eggs or yogurt, but I hope someone else pipes in to confirm that for you. Hoping your gal does great and feels better soon!
