So Princess Portias first egg was 3 days ago and it was soft shell and broken

but today I went out to check and I thought at first that it was one of the plastic easter eggs i had put in last week, but NOPE! I had heard that BSL were notorious for double yolkers. I'm guessing that is what this one is. IT'S HUGE!!! On another topic, my EE Georgia has laid 5 eggs now and all have been tiny, but today we got a much larer one from her too. I'm such a proud momma!!!!! Here are some pics. Oh, and I love my BSL roo, I think he is so pretty.

Princess Portia is the BSL stand with the Roo!

Interesting shell, resembles a plastic Easter eggs. Maybe you have a copycat hen. Wonder is you used a golfball if the egg would have dimples.

Very handsome roo. If I ever need another roo, I'm thinking about a BSL.

I know, I think that's why I thought it was a plastic egg at first. It has the ring around it and everything. Any info on this would be interesting to hear. We just started them on laying pellets 2 days ago, so I wondered if it has something to do with the calcium. And I think the Roo looks like a salt and pepper gentleman. He's not terribly smooth with the ladies, but he is starting to do a few wooing techniques instead of just grabbing them by the neck now. He's trying to get some SWAG! LOL He's still working on the crowing a bit too.

I had a RIR Roo, he was beautiful but rough on the girls. Not doing enough research on what roos are better, I was offered a Brown Leghorn roo and took him. He's young, but I'm hoping he's more gentle than the RIR was. I have twice the number of girls now 20 vs. 10, so that might help.

Yes, I have 9 hens and one roo. Only 2 hens are laying right now and they have actually started letting him mate instead of calling assault at the top of their lungs. Just yesterday I saw him grab a piece of bread and take it to the BSL hen and call her over to it, so I was very pleased to see some manners. He's gonna be a good boy I think. He def. keeps a close eye on his girls when they are all out.

So when we had the eggs for dinner 2nite I had two little yolks in the big egg. Well, our EE Georgia gave me a bigger egg than usual (of course shes only been laying eggs for a week) and it was a double yolk too! wow GIRLS. 2 IN ONE DAY!
