I have found that herbs come up before veggies are ready which makes everything smell good before we get to taste them

I am trying to make Fall/Winter plans in the works for keeping some annuals as long as possible as well as begonias.

Any idea what this is? It smells more astringent than lemony, like a cleaner. Notice to the upper right there are buds. I don't know if they will be flowers or what. This is the thin stemmed little plant that was growing in the side of the lemon balm pot when I bought it. Possibly not lemon thyme at all...

I have super bad allergies no food allergies though and dust is a real killer to me, so I have been cleaning out some stuff and now I'm so stuffed and miserable I forgot to wear my mask .  I pop allergy pills like they are candy, and because my symptoms have gone on for so many years my sense of smell is almost non existent. oh well guess there are worse things, but does this keep me from doing anything nope not as long as they make steroids and allergy pills, allergy shots 2 to 3 times a week at 25 dollars a pop well I'd rather spend that on something else, I know really is it worth the misery well when I'm in the middle of it no but it is kinda out of sight out of mind.

I realize that this thread was started awhile ago and hasn't been visited for a couple of years, but it is obvious that you are interested in herbs and I was hoping since because you are a fairly long term member that you might be interested in helping someone new to the site. I would like to create a searchable database of herbs on this site that members can use to help treat their chickens of some of the more common diseases. I would also like to try to access the information that can be provided by the rather large audience that this blog represents.

Any suggestions as to how to go about this?

I feed my chickens organic feed, which can get pretty expensive as you probably know, especially when the eggs are slow to come in when the hens slack off haha. We pay about $22 for a 40 lb bag, and I was wondering if anyone knew of an organic feed mill in the northwestern tip of IL or even in Dubuque IA, because I've heard prices for feed or organic corn, wheat, etc is cheaper at one of those mills.

I heard putting some basil in your chickens water is good for them, is this true? And does anyone know why if so and what exactly that would do for the chickens. I've raised several and they seem to be fine without it, what might this tip actually do for the birds health?

Not sure what basil in water does, but I think basil is an antibacterial or antibiotic like oregano and obviously has benefits for chickens, so I would put it in water, but I prefer to chop it and other herbs up and mix it with the chicken food, and if it is dried the chickens will be less likely to pick it out. Raw apple cider vinegar in water is extremely good for immune systems and cures lots of problems, so I put it in my chicken's water and drink it too, mostly in smoothies. I heard it helps prevent cancer as well
