Found this thread when I was searching for types of herbs I could add to the coop. Just wanted to share something I saw when visiting a friends coop. Her DH put a small skylight into the coop then hung a couple flower baskets right under it. Then he planted different herbs in it. Oregano, Basil, Lemon Balm, mints, and a bunch of lavender.
Their coop is very tall almost 10 ft and the roost only go about half way up.. so the plants grow and the chickens seem to leave them alone. And it smells wonderful in the coop. They said they dont have many problems with pest. I thought the whole thing looked really cool and if someone had the space to do it It seems like a great idea
