Hereditary Rooster Aggression

That is the alternative approach -- totally hands off. Some males will feel you're a threat and try to get rid of you when they get mature enough to try, and others will think of you as just part of the environment that moves around. Lots of people do that successfully. The problem is that then you have a rooster like that you don't handle at all. It's a fight to catch him, to check him for mites, to medicate him, to do anything. And even the ones that generally ignore you might attack when you try to pick up one of his hens. I prefer an animal that I can work with, and am willing to put in the effort that it takes to achieve that.
