I have a flock of 29 chickens and 9 ducks, and I love them more than anyone knows; they're more like pets than anything, and are a part of the family. Today, thank goodness I was outside (I was in a different part of the yard, but still outside), and I heard the screams, squawks, and cacophony of the girls and looked up to see a few of them running frantic in every direction. My feet never moved so fast as I ran toward the sounds, only to see the beagle who lives a couple miles up the road darting through the yard and going after whoever was closest. I heard a bloodcurdling shriek from behind one of the barns, and right in front of me was a pile of feathers, so my first thought was, "Our girls have been killed". After chasing off the dog, only half of our flock was accounted for, and I just knew that everyone else was either injured or dead. After waiting about 10 minutes, a couple of the girls came running at me from a hiding spot near the house. And finally, all the rest who were nowhere to be found came out of the cornfield, shaken and afraid. Never have I been so thankful. I cried out of gratefulness for the longest time.....God performed a miracle today. All of our girls could easily have been destroyed without our knowing while we remained in the house. My praise report is that He preserved all my of precious birds without one casualty or injury; there is no possible way it was coincidence that I was outside right when this took place without God's planning. Now I'm going to go out and love on my girls, because I may have not had the privilege to give them their goodnight kisses tonight as a I do every day. I have taken this for granted until now.
