I would also love to see inside the coop house, have you a roost w/ poop tray under it?
nest boxes?
What a great & easy design!!
If I were closer, I'd come steal some too!

We have this coop style listed at https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=598959 with more photos. This is for chickens and bantams. We are working on a turkey coop that would be the same 5' wide, 10' long and 8'tall, so the turkeys can fly up to roosts. the nest woild be in an area in the end. the entire top would be covered. Still in the design stage. Need to get these done first. Have one almost ready.

Please PM me when you get the turkey coop done..I am very interested.
However cannot ship one to me, I would love to see the design.
Way to go!

Is not the Commercial White in the SOP?
I do not have a copy of the Turkey section.
(I photo copy pages from someone else)and have not done so for any turkeys.
I am getting the SOP next year.
It was told to me at the Fair here that my MW were judged as "smaller versions of the Commercial White"
I understood the commercial white to be in the SOP....

The only whites in the SOP are White Holland and the Beltsville White. The commercial BB White is not in the SOP. It is a hybrid developed for the commercial industry. Most likely your judge used the White Holland or the Beltsville White Standard in judging them. It is possible they judged them as a commercial turkey. The Midget White is not in the SOP. However, the ALBC list their weights as Midget White toms average 13 lbs., hens average 8 lbs. Shape is the same for all turkeys per the SOP. The only differences is the color and weight. So the Midget White can be judged in shape/type by the Turkey Standard, by color using either the White Hollands or Beltsville, and by weight with the ALBC description. It is thought many are shown as a Beltsville, instead of a Midget White. The ETF would like to see the MW accepted in the Standard. Perhaps we could seek acceptance in the Bantam Standard? The first Bantam Turkey?

The commercial whites will never be accepted in the SOP. They must be able to reproduce naturally. The commercial BBW and BBB can not.

I've been curious about the recent history of the Narragansett, and how many distinct lines are out there. Does anyone know which lines are most closely related to whose?

The two "commercial" private breeders I know of who sell Narragansetts are Porter Turkeys, and Duane Urch.

Hatcheries such as McMurray, Cackle, Privett, Ideal, even Meyer sell this breed... I have heard Cackle's are quite a good size.

Sandhill has the Narragansett as well.

I am interested in keeping a couple of different lines of Narragansett, and anything you might know about who got whose birds from whom

or which, if any, birds are distinct strains... and of course if there are any other "old time" Narragansett breeders there.

The SPPA's 1999 turkey census found only 13 breeders of Narragansett remaining (I think that includes hatcheries as well as private individuals)... I don't have access to the survey details though, unfortunately, so I don't know who the 13 were. ETA: Of course, Mr. Urch would have been one of the 13, and Sandhill might have been as well, in all probability getting some of their breeding stock from Urch Turnland.

Well, any thoughts or comments would be most welcome!

In addition to all of the mumbo with the SOP, the midget has a longer & wider breast than the Holland.........and alot are warning Midget seekers to beware Holland sellers advertising "midgets" that are really Hollands.

I am intersted in the Narrgansett as well, but I will get eggs from a breeder here on the BYC forum, and never from Sandhill.
I have had such traumatic issues with them as well as other ""Hatcheries"" as well as friends, that I am saying NO to hatcheries.
Sandhill being #1.
