A FRAGMENT.
The New Year wedded Winter —
Winter, the harsh old king.

Whose head was a snow-eapped mountain,
Whose breath was the north wind's sting.

But he wooed and wedded the maiden.
And gave her a robe of snow ;

And laid on her breast bright jewels,
With a lace-work of frost below.

The day's rolled on like a river.
And the mother looked up and smiled,

As she laid in the arms of Winter
Their beautiful first-born child.

" What shall we name our darling ? "
She said to the harsh old king ;

The old king kissed her softly,
And said, " We will call her Spring."

"How shall we robe our darling?
I've always dressed in white ;

But she must he clothed in colors —
In something warm and bright."

Then the old king smiled and answered,
"We'll give her a robe of green.

Decked with the fairest flowers
And buds that ever were seen."

Then he kissed the beautiful infant
Softly on check and brow,

And clasped the hand of the mother.
And said, "I am going now.

The days of my life are numbered,
The last is slipping away ;

I will leave you to guide our darling.
Wherever her feet may stray.

One of my Hamburgs back in the day.......

Walt, that is about how large my La Flèche look. How depressing. Oh well, I keep telling myself, "if they don't show improvement in 20 years I'll give up."

If anyone has literature, a column or an editorial, on the gold leakage breeding of blacks please let me know. I have no idea how that sort of thing functions. But it would be nice to read up on people who have tinkered with the method in the past.

Quote: YOu are lucky to have such opportunities to learn . . . you will remember these times forever.
Indeed I am - It's intresting though most of these opportunity's are more or less self-made because a few think I am very intelligent for my age... I have just made my self a small network of very intelligent professionals. I am so humbled that I have meant a person that believes in me and what I know so much she is flying me across the country so I can work with her, help her plan her world-first poultry facility (and yes we know it will be a world first). It's incredibly humbling to meat someone like that. It's more amazing because of my age. It's really really funny I had hesitations about university and collages. She is encouraging me to go - not just to learn but for the network of people I will make.
Go to college when you are ready-- and you will be ready before most. You are like the home schooled younsters--or they way they are supposed to be. Eager to learn what the world has to offer-- and THAT is what the adults see in you. Most young people have had school work thrown at them and not had the opportunity to become self aware and self motivated. The public school system is poor at creating that. It is a rare person that can overcome the limitations that public schooling creates. You have that self motivation. YOU will excell at what ever you put your mind to.

I wonder if anyonw would like to start a discussion on the different heritage breeds based on the different climates around the US and why one breed might thrive better than another in a given area. Might help the on lurkers think about a particular bird that is more likely to be a sucess in their own given area. For instance YHF has chosen dorkings, rose comb as I remember, to cope with the moist cold of his NH location; Ron has moved to birds that better cope with the California climate. ANy takers??

Yes - I suppose this is true. The public school system in North America is great as long as you can memorize - But if you are intelligent it is not for you - Constantly looking for a way not to do this coming semester lol

Just a gentle warning based on experience.
I noticed on the homepage for "BYC Genetics and Breeding" that there is a closed image stating "double click" .
Double click is a particularly nasty adware/malware. Tough to get rid of. Run the other way.
Best,
Karen

That bird was 6 lbs. She was overweight for a Hamburg.

The challenge is half of the fun.

I will keep my eye out. I would be interested myself even that I do not have black birds.

Which I will add here. If there is any recommended books . . . . I need a few. I have over read everything that I have.
