Heritage Large Fowl - Phase II

You are what you eat, right? Arielle, I have done the EPTM tests for the mares in Deurne when I went through college. Vdl brought 40 young horses one year and I helped start most of them. Hope you are able to get many more foals from your Nimmerdor mare, have you considered Numero Uno as a stud for her? Also Lupicor is a good producer, he died too young, but there is lots of frozen from him and is very fertile. No misses from the breeders I talk to.
YEs!! Eat right!! I had a horse vet tell me my old guy (26) had cushings-- I chucked to myself. How can she possibly know in November? He has never had a diet high in grain just a qt or 2 /day--always lots of 1st cut hay and 24hr turnout. He shed out just fine in the spring. I had Lupicor on my list-- I will see if I can find any frozen. THanks!!!.

One of the 'unorthodox' components of my chicken feed is heat-clotted beef blood. I get 125 to 150 gallons yearly and feed it 'cooked' as part of their overall ration. More in winter but they get it all year long. In fact, I feed my birds the same components year round...I just change the ratio of farm-prepared foodstuff to commercial feed. I use Layena (and other goodies) as binders for their mash.

EDIT: Just to stir your imagination, I also cook green tripe under pressure for them too. And lots of other things that many would frown on...

Edited: To lament...Several of my 9 month old NN's are trying to go broody. Pain's in the butt.

They shouldn't be too hard to yank out of their trances..lol When it's really cold, it keeps eggs

from freezing so I'm not going to crowd them too much...If they want to keep 5 or 6 eggs warm

for a couple hours...no harm done!

I've fed Calf Manna to many species of critters for 50 years....Horses, cattle, goats, chickens, dogs,( Yes, Mastiffs and Greyhounds ! ), and many sick, or injured species of wildlife that I re-habed for the Ga. DNR. I have never found a better supplement.

Quote: A very concentrated product of high protein and vitamins and minerals!!

I have asked my grain mill about making a more concentrated mix along the idea of calf manna-- and I was told they cannot because of the laws.

THey must follow the directins on the packaging for the concentrate mixes that they use when making big batches. Doubling the amt is prohibited.

You can buy more expensive products but I don't know of a better one! Everything I have gets it in their food..including my dogs.

Is there a particular reason you post everything in bold type??

Yes. Along with other serious injuries, I lost my left eye due to shrapnel from an exploding artillery shell.

A cataract is causing fairly serious problems (with my right eye) so I use bold print so I can at least see what I type.

I hope to have the problem taken care of in late March,2014. Sorry if it bothers you.
