My chicks are in a huge Rubbermaid water tub in my greenhouse when they are wormed. I am paranoid about birds running out of water , so I keep 2, one gallon waterers in with my babies. On worming day, I remove one, and add the Wazine to the remaining one.If the babies finish that water off in 12 hours, I give another dose that will last until morning the next day, so they get 24 hours of Wazine.
Lacy, if you have a single hen with good feather, you have a way to work your way out. Even if she isn't perfect. That would be a fun project all on it's own.
This is a hen not of my breeding. I acquired her a couple of years ago. She has really nice feather quality compared to most of my birds. Her tail feathers are wider and so are her wing feathers. Her primaries are in great condition. Her tail is a bit messed up from the nest box but other than that she has great feather quality. She also has WAY TOO MUCH fluff! Her hock joints don't show at all. Due to her feather quality, I will use her. I'll have to check my cock that is in with some other hens right now. If he will help correct the fluff issue, I'll cross him over her. He won't do anything for her lacing though so that breeding will be for type and feather quality only. She's been getting the same food as all my other birds for the last two years so I don't think this issue is food related. I will be going through my birds and making some selections.

The cock I was considering I think would definitely help in the fluff department but his primaries are pretty shabby. He didn't even have to open his wings for me to see it. I have another cock that has type similar to hers and also has fantastic feather quality. I'm thinking I may use him with her just to get more birds to work with as an insurance policy of sorts. After I have chicks from that cross, I will use the male with nice tight and short fluff.

I'm talking about my time, effort, energy, thoughts and dreams. They were in much better shape before I moved here. I'm slowly getting my buildings and circumstances rearranged to suit my needs and so hopefully I'll be able to get back on track. Besides, once I have perfect birds on the place, what will I have to work on? I HAVE to keep the old ones.
