Heritage Large Fowl - Phase II

I remember your post on egg color... it's a female thing as the aesthetics are appealing to not only egg purchasers but ourselves as well.  I agree 100%

Good luck with your Delawares.  When you have to cull some, remember they are quite tasty!  You will really like them.

I can hardly wait! I can't bring myself to do the actual killing, but I'm the bravest about the rest of it, so I forgive myself that weakness.

I'm going to try to post some photos of my trio soon. That way I'll have a good record of where I'm starting. I'm branding the silhouette of the SOP for the breed into my brain ... the whole SOP thing is a foreign language to me.

If you can get your hands on one, even used, it will be a HUGE benefit to your breeding program. The first 40 pages are the most important thing in the entire book. Even more important than the breed descriptions and silhouette. It explains the why and how it's all tied together.

x2 I have one and refer to it often even though my current breed (Orloffs) isn't even in it. I'm hoping to graduate to an SOP recognized heritage breed next year; I had tried to find Hardy-line silver spangled hamburgs last year, even had some help from Bob, but no luck.

Bridgit Riddle in CA has some really nice Silver Spangled Hamburgs if you're still interested in the breed. I'd contact her first.

A direct link to all your (and by "your" I mean "my") SOP needs ... http://www.amerpoultryassn.com/store.htm

(I think I can live without the wooden case, but only just.)

I contacted Neil briefly last year, I will try contacting Ms Riddle. I think part of the issue last year was simply that I didn't start looking in earnest until April.

April is near end of chick season if they even sell chicks. Mid-August through around December is perfect time to be shopping for cockerels and pullets (this is always your best bet, you know what you're getting.)
