Okay, all done, How's she look?

Don't you just love those curious molting photos?
I have one 6 year old Australorp hen that molted late and has yet to grow her feathers back on her back this year. She has two tail feathers and yet she gets the royal attention of one cock bird..he calls her to treats and even holds the tidbit up for her to take. She is a steady layer and goes outside with her bare back to freerange...but I cant keep a saddle on her...she wiggles out of it no matter how I attach it...so I gave up trying.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep a pedigree chart for all of my birds? I tried going on word to make one, but that one wouldn't of worked, at least not easily. I want to be able to track the lineage of my Brahmas, so when it's like ten years from now I know what the originals looked like then next gen, and the next, etc.

Look at Zoo Easy.

We're having lovely weather, so I decided to go ahead and trim the Orpington's. It went pretty well, boy, are they puffy back there! Next time, I will use better scissors. I didn't shave them to bare skin, I just cut it short (1/4") out from the vent about an inch and a half, then cropped the thickest part back enough so that it couldn't be pushed over the vent. I don't know if I did a good job, but it HAD TO have helped! We'll see with the next hatch. Thanks, again, TDL.

Do you find that the cockerals grow significantly faster/larger than the pullets? I have a couple of three week olds that are nearly as big as the six week old chicks in the other brooder. When holding them, they feel twice as heavy as others from the same hatch. I'm wondering if they are the boys and the smaller ones are the girls.

Hey you experienced APA folks -

When someone wants to get a new Standard put up for consideration, when this is done, does the general APA membership get informed that a new Standard has been submitted for review, or is this just kept secret with whatever committee makes the decisions on adding new Standards?

Let's enjoy the warmth while it lasts, George. A flock of not so little birds tell me....cold snap again at the end of the month.

Looks like they were right TDL! I just saw a headline on Yahoo News that shows another polar vortex coming on down and they said it would be the coldest of the season!

That's pretty cool about your Punxatawney Orpingtons you've got there.

Well, I'll be diddily dipped! If my son would 'fall for it' I'd have him take pity on 'ol Dad and take off for Costa Rica early!

I don't expect he's that generous right now ...this would interfere with his planned and savored (by him) road trip.
