Karen, your chickens wouldn't feel that way.![]()
No my Dear...the really hard part was keeping 'really raw information' to a minimum. No one was forced to read it and I believe that some folks might improve the health of their stock by feeding a more 'down to earth' diet.Such detailed, at times quite raw information about the sentient beings' blood, flesh, and bones is very difficult to read about, and come to terms with.
I thought this thread was about breeding, and improving the heritage fowl we; or I should say; some of us love, care for, and respect!
Good day,

Quote:Karen, it is only your sensibilties that is between the meat scraps and your lovely chickens. I started by picking clean a stewed chicken and tossing them the bones. Which really still has a bit of meat on it no matter how much I try. To give the "bones" to the chickens was win-win. Just food for thought.![]()

Ron, I want to reiterate my appreciation of the recipes.
I have little tolerance for wasting potential food stuffs now. THe Perdue ads on TV that proclaimed an all vegetable diet really bothered me when that advertising campaign started. I shook my head at the nonsense designed to appeal to ignorant people. Chickens are one of the two meat production animals that can use offal and trimmings from the chicken, beef and pork slaughter houses. Otherwise it goes into dog and cat food. I love that I have chickens that can recycle almost any foodstuff.
In the last few years I have been introduced to some of the more needy people in my town. That some people do not have enough food bothers me. There is one homeless man that gets my extra eggs. I can usually find him at the library. He is always grateful and has a story to tell. He spent all his life farming and has a lifetime of info to share and is willing to share it. I hardly feel like my dozen eggs pays for his knowledge. I can't throw away food stuff of any kind now that I have chickens.
