Heritage SQ Egg Chain Swap Thread

Ha, my ducks are critical and I didnt even know it.

I do, however have a question about that list. How do they get their info? I find it hard to believe there are less than 1000 silver appleyard ducks in the world. And heck, the local farm store had magpie ducks for sale last week. Can those numbers possibly be accurate?

The ALBC list is compiled counting only those breeders that are TRUE to the breed. In other words, they must meet the Standard of Perfection in weight and type. Hatchery birds just do not meet those requirements. Compare a hatchery Silver Laced Wyandotte to the Turbo's SLW. No comparison. Many pounds different in weight and the type and color is different. So the ALBC only counts those that are true to the breed, not the ones taht resemble the breed. Hope that helps.

CURRENT OFFER: 6 Buff Duck eggs

Mrs. Turbo :

Rule #1: No popcorn unless you share!

Rule #2: Turbo wants a suprise gift of Buff duck eggs. They can pasture with his large Wyandottes and would get along fine. Mine loves our Buckeys!

Wish some of my hertiage breeds were laying right now. Jim Them African Geese eggs are huge. I had to put them on my top self turner in my dickey.

Thanks much. Glad they made it. Now let's hope they grow and hatch. Fertility has been great with these guys so I am hoping that there will be lots of goslings. Our main gander's name is Baby Huey. These geese are really big but very sweet. There is only one hissing goose in the batch "Knot Head" and she is all show.

Nice swap you've started. I've definitely got quality chickens, ducks, and geese on the list, but I've got a purity issue right now and not enough space to keep my ducks apart. Time to work on fencing.

The indian runners and Sebs have control of the pond at the moment....

Nice Swap, however I'm sorry, I do NOT rely on the ALBC to tell me what is critical, common, threatened, etc. If they can't even get Araucana vs Ameraucana straight, and consider New Hampshires, Rhode Island Whites, and Catalanas as common, . . . I like their terms of what is heritage, but I hate their list of breeds and where they fall under.

I can trade up to 12 Silver Gray Dorking eggs for Red Dorkings, Red, Light, Coronation or Buff Sussex, or Nice quality Delawares... Sorry to be picky but I only have an acre and a half so I have to keep the numbers manageable. I am NOT NPIP so you will have to pick up here in Kansas City. Which shouldn't that be a rule for the post? I know there aren't fines yet but no one wants to have their eggs confiscated...
