He's slipping into silence. Test results page 8

I know what you mean. I had the same reservations about my daughter being labeled as learning disabled. It worked out well though especially the legal aspect of it(like getting the school to help). I think it would be worth it - disabilities seem to be more accepted these days.

I got a stack of stuff on ASL and techinques for hearing impaired kids, and enrolled in the ASL class in the fall. Today he sat on my lap and asked me to sing the lulaby I sang when he was a baby, so he doesn't forget it.

is there a childrens hospital nearby, most insurances are usually accepted and a second opinion would be good if you can get it. It is a hard thing to accept but now may be a good time to start teaching sign language. There is a totally free website I have used in the past.

Just as an example, my sister was born legally blind and she learned to play 6 instruments, graduated from college on the deans list with honors after completing 5 years of work in 4 years and just recently graduated law school. Take one step at a time and remain positive.

My youngest is disabled and receives SSD and medical. What his medical covers with the state is much better than his dads insurance so I stuck with it. Dont worry about the disabled label, as mentioned it will help you acquire more help for him when he needs it. No one needs to know any of it if you dont tell them.

just to add, if he qualifies for medical and SSD I would advise putting in the application asap as it can take 6 months or longer sometimes for it all to go thru with SSD but medical you should be able to get right away if you qualify with income only till SSD would be approved.

The children's hospital is at the same university as the lab we're allowed to use. I spoke to the pedritian about what I was told regarding putting him on SSD so he can get help. He'd like to wait untill we have a diagnosis, and then arrange a chat.

Update the appointment's tomorrow at lunchtime, hopefully we'll have some answers.

In the month since, the volume has gotten louder a notch at a time each day, he stepped in front of a car he didn't see comming, and he's been pulled out of competitions because he can't hear the marshall's directions.

It's been breaking my heart a shard at a time for so long now, there's a good chance it's genetic, and if so, not much we can do. We really thought when they removed the brain growth when has was born that was it.

Right now I'm trying to get his quail old enough to crow while he can still hear it.

Yeah, he's a fighter, when we saw the growth on the ultrasound, well they suggested I not wait for the amino results, but I just couldn't. Unfortunatly my mother has decided now is the time to remind me that these tests are done so children with "problems" don't "have to be born".

I did mention I hate that woman with a passion, yes?
