Hexagonal Wire Mesh?

Is hexagonal mesh inherently worse than rectangular/square mesh? Every video and post I see people using the square variety. The hexagonal is much more easily accessible (and less costly) so is it much worse?

Could it be used as wire flooring or walling to replace 13mm x 25mm wire? By using hexagonal 13mm that is?

The wire itself is weaker too I think. If you look at the wires on that versus the 2x1 or 1x1 squares, it's usually thinner. And the wires aren't actually twisted together securely. If you had pliers and a bit of time, you could unwind it

To exclude rats and most mice you want wire mesh with holes that are 1/2" (1.27 cm) or smaller in diameter/width.

Also tends to be chicken wire (hexagonal) has thinner gauge wire than hardware cloth, which is part of the cost difference. Thinner wire is easier to breech.

Predators rip right through chicken wire. Especially dogs.
