Hi everyone!
not new to chickens but it has been a couple years since we had any. We are in North Dakota currently and had some when we lived in Florida. When moved up here we had to give them to a friend that already had some and I was so sad. We moved into an apartment for the first 2 years and couldn't have any. We finally bought a home and just got our new chicks in yesterday! We got multiple kinds. We got some red and black stars, we got a few light brahmas, some sliver laced cochins, silver laced wyandottes, some blue andalusians, and some cream legbars, some barred rocks, ameracanas and some white crested black polish. I'm a little nervous about keeping the chicks warm in the freezing cold winter up here so any tips and advice for extreme cold and keeping our chicks warm would be appreciated!!! We plan on converting an old grain bin into a coop if we can swing taking it apart and transporting it to our home! If it does not work out we will be building one out of wood.
My husband and I have 5 kids and they love the chicks too. My grandparents owned an egg ranch for a living but they were retired when I was a child i still grew up around chickens as they had many for personal use for eggs! I'm glad to have joined a community full of people who love chickens too as I still have lots to learn. We currently have 29 chickens and hope to grow our flock some more next spring!
