Hey all!

Thank y’all not only for the feeding advise, but the warm welcome too! It sounds like most everyone goes through this sort of issue, and y’all have suggested good options to try with my girls! I was afraid it was going to cost me some $, but I have some options to try that won’t cost first before I try new feeders, which is what I was looking at before joining…

Hello and welcome to BYC!

I use small tubs, usually a plastic dog bowl placed in one of those little giant black tubs for a fairly tight fit. I have several of them. They usually won't over turn and the birds can't fling the feed all out.

Best wishes with your flock!

Can you send me a photo of your set up? I’m curious about it! I’ve moved the girls feeder back down to the coop floor, but I see they are still flinging it out. 😒

You can get most of not all of these things at TSC or other feed stores. The red dog dish is about 7"x4" which fits perfectly in the 2 quart tub. If you've got issues with birds still flipping them, 😂 you can put both in the 4 quart. (See photos below. These black tubs get dirty looking which I don't like. I fed a lot of mash, (damp feed) so I washed out the dog dishes daily when feeding mash. Damp feed doesn't get flung out of the feeders easily either however you should only dampen what you will feed in one day and wash the bowl out at the end of the day. Chickens LOVE damp feed).
