Hey! My name is Lindsay, I'm 26 years old & this is my first time using this website. I have never owned or been interested in chickens, but always loved ducks. No specific reason, just never grew up around them much enough to get used to them. However, i have came arcross what I believe is a African goose and I need some help as to how to take care of it. It appears somebody might have dropped him/her off at our pond becuase it cant fly and seems to be very tame. I am also, a fur mom to a chow mix dog, Lucy, who is 5 years old and a 7 month old kitten named, Penny. I am a sucker for all animals and couldnt be more excited to take on this new journey with this goose!

Welcome to Backyard Chickens from another Penny :gig

Welcome to Backyard Chickens!!!:woot Glad you joined the flock! Even though this is a chicken site almost everyone her also has ducks and would sure like to talk about them! People also talk about geese any birds, etc... That is really neat that u found a goose in your yard. You could probably treat a goose just as you would chicken. They are probably interesting birds to have also!! Welcome!

Hi Lindsay and welcome to BYC :frow We're so happy you've decided to join us:ya
Can you post a pic of your goose? I have not yet entered my goose venture, so I'm not much help, but with a pic others can assess age and suggest appropriate feed.

Decades ago I inherited some chickens. They were fun and good to have around but I said "never again", HAH. For the past several years we would drive to our neighbors (5 miles away) for fresh eggs. They have all sorts of critters including a pair of geese. I loved watching those geese!!! Man o man I wanted a pair.
Having one just show up is perfect. Sorry i can't offer advice about care but I think they are pretty self sufficient, free ranging. I'd feed "all flock" feed, offer lots of room...you will all be fine.
Our place is not conducive for geese or ducks (no open water) but chickens are great. Never say never, eh?
