hey from mississippi

Thanks every one. I broke a egg today and see the white spot and the two string things on it and it was the first so I put the others in the incubator today.yeah

Welcome to BYC. Has your hen gone broody in the past? If not, she probably will not go broody. Go ahead, get an incubator - you can do it. We try to enable here.

She has never been broody. She layed another today. I got the incubator temp at 85 to 90 degrees f. Is that two much.

Check out the BYC Learning Center for articles on hatching eggs. This is a really good one. https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/hatching-eggs-101 For a forced air incubator (one with a fan) the temp should be 99.5*-100*F, for a still air, it should be 2-3* higher (it should say on the instruction manual for the incubator.) 85-90* is too cold to incubate eggs at and expect them to hatch normally. You might want to post on the Incubating and Hatching eggs forum with the type of incubator you have and maybe someone can give you hints on what has worked for them with that type. https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/5/incubating-hatching-eggs

Thank you for the temp I made this incubator out of a thick wall Styrofoam cooler with no fan. Have it just like the others I have read and seen. I just need to close one of my vents off to hold little more heat. And I opened one and it was fertile. The others were layed the same time so all should be.
