Hey Gang! Whatcha think of my plans and Rooster issue?

I agree. It looks TOUGH! I guess a sasquatch could probably get in!!! It looks like sheet metal on my computer. I was wondering the reason behind the sheet metal. I am in the process of building a chicken tractor so I am checking out how people are predator proofing. I am parnoid about something getting in and killing them. My kids would be devastated. How is Andrew taking to being a chicken owner?

Squatches are rampant here in WNY ... as are cougars!

Andrew is TOTALLY into it! I had him help me pick out a few, and he picked the Light Brahmas and I am so glad he did

.. we will be getting them in the last batch on April 6th along with 2 Partridge rocks and 2 Australorps.

I love our chicks, but they are pretty boring, tho we did hand feed them some meal worms that we are raising ... that was fun! I threw in an earthworm and all chaos happened! LOL I can't wait for them to get in the coop! They are doing SO well!!!

Praise to God

So my plan is to put the 6 (unless chicken math isn't done with me yet) new birds in the same brooder with the other 14, seperated by a wired wall for 1-2 weeks ... then I will remove the wall and see how it goes ... and then on may 4th, the 4 week olds and the 7 and 8 week olds will be going into their new coop

I can't wait to get them out of my garage!!!

Yet another update ... except for.the window, the coop is done ... on to the run!

This is the finished outside of the coop ... not sure if you.can tell by the pics, but those openings are covered by hardware cloth

So I still have to make the nest boxes and put the window in ... and clean, of course .... going with the deep litter method in the coop and course sand in the run ....

It looks GREAT! Good job. How many chickens do you have now?
Thanks! Right now I have 8 chicks that are 3 weeks old and 6 chicks that are 2 weeks old .... one week from today I will be adding another 6 chicks for a.total of 20 :weee .... I was only gonna have 12 :gig ... taking bets on whether I will only pick up 6 next week :plbb ....

Tony,
I just found your post and I am loving it! We live in southern PA and just got our first chicks - started with six, bought two more...worked out a plan for a small hen house for this year, but have already gutted an old trailer and drawn up plans to turn it into a much larger coop next year so we can expand. I'm planning on the PDZ shelf as well ;) Also our run is at least twice the size we initially thought it would be...we figured, why redo it later??

I am really interested to see how your flock gets along - right now we only have four TSC red pullets, two buff orps, and two blue silkies, but I would love to add several of the breeds you nabbed up! And if this works out...we're going to try for a few pigs. Because the best pets are the delicious ones!!

Aero, thank you for your kind comments! This has been a super fun adventure! The chicks are finally warming up to me as they get older and I cannot wait to out them in their coop! As you can see, I am pretty much doing a play by play so I will keep y'all updated! Loving this!
