its easy vegetarian night , having baked sweet potatoes with a giant vegie salad & ranch dressing , then hot apple pie & all veggies & apples from our garden & orchard ...!!!

When I was first married, I brought a pumpkin pie to thanksgiving dinner with the in-laws. My mother-in-law took a look at it, said,'Whats wrong with it?" and threw it out.

crust is my issue. If I had a freezer full of the store bought ones there would be more quiches in this house. They are still just pricey for us.

Memorable family story here. I was 17 and went to Thanksgiving at my grandmothers house and was shocked to see her serving a Mrs. Smith's pie for dessert. My grandmother was a very good cook, but baking was not her strong suit. I offered the next year to bring a dessert and have been supplying desserts every year since. (I'm 42 now) She is now in a memory care unit, but I still bring her goodies.

I made my very first lemon meringue pie when I was about 18 or so for Christmas. I didn't seal the meringue well enough and it ended up being lemon meringue pudding instead. My father sat at the dinner table and complained at how runny it was, etc. My grandfather looked at me and said that I could make him a pie anytime. It was very tasty, just not the right consistency. I have since mastered the meringue.

The key to good pie crusts is to not over knead it. And you want it wet enough to clump together, but not soggy.

You know, I think I need to just practice and accept that there will be failures until I master it.
If the crust is too mushy or too tough, they can scrape around it. I just have to shake off some colossal failures.

Pies are great. I love cherry pie. and apple. and peach...oh I'd get chunky (...er)

My mother in law always bought her deserts, so they always looked perfect.
I never had that kind of money, and I don't eat food out of boxes, cans, or bags.

just not a good idea for our health, and about pies have you tried baking the pie shell first..? you can do that and then fill it with your filling, and if its an open topped pie like pumpkin or pecan pie, or what ever ,you can cover the out side crust with foil to keep it from getting over cooked,and becoming to dark, wile you bake the inside of the pie, thats one way to make a perfect pie crust on the both, and if its apple pie you can add a nice crumb topping , or what ever..?? sooo happy baking have a good one

o fire ants , YES I KNOW THEM WELL...LOL... we lived in Brooksville FL until they put in that big hi way and took the land we had, so we left for AZ ...lol.. we have them here in AZ as well geeezzzer
