Hey Grandpa, What's for Supper? Part 2

Goodness Annesa's Muse! I hope you and hubby both feel better soon.

Your great-grandmother taught you well.

I suspect that many who lived through the Great Depression certainly HAD to live that way for a while. Some celebrated and moved on when the hard times were over, but others carried those lessons they learned into new habits.

Besides hating waste, there's another upside to cooking this way. As often happens when you have 4 people's schedules to contend with, sometimes there just isn't much time to whip things up. I rarely eat things that are pre-made other than a few of the healthier convenience items, so having leftovers in the fridge means that I'm just a microwave away from a quick dinner. That saves my sanity as much as it saves money!

That does sound fun. The girls are about to climb the walls, cabin fever set in yesterday when I told them they were housebound, everything was ice. Thank goodness we're already thawing out!
Just gotta get caught up on laundry and mopping, yay mud.

Campbell's tomato soup and grilled cheese.

I 've spent all day so far shoveling and snowblowing. We had a foot of fresh snow at 7 this morning, nearly another foot by 1, and it's still snowing about an inch an hour. At least it's 20 degrees and not too windy.

I just hope my back holds up until DH and DS get home.

French chicken in a pot (poulet en cocotte), herbed mashed potatoes, whatever veggie sings to me and a nice pan sauce from the chicken drippings.

eta: BB those articles are great!! I heard about this sort of thing a while back on NPR. Thanks for posting the links

You've got to give it to 'em. They're eating pretty well, especially considering where their food comes from.

But, what I liked about the articles and video is not so much that they were doing it, but that they were doing it because it was core to their beliefs. It's much easier to say it than it is to do it, ya know?!

Would you please share your French chicken in a pot recipe?

Menu change.. lol Jim is coming up with varying reasons as to not have to eat squash soup. SO it will be boiled taters, cabbage and onion with kilbasa sausage. lol Prolly will add some parmasean crusted garlic toast.
