Hey Grandpa, What's for Supper? Part 2

Aneesa's Muse :

I tried to do a search, but only got the entire thread ..so I have to dig through it.

Sorry 'bout that. I haven't had the time to index it yet.

Adobo is a Filipino dish, traditionally. There's a recipe or two.. here, in this thread ..or in the other "recipes" thread. I tried to do a search, but only got the entire thread ..so I have to dig through it. I make mine a little different from most folks, too...

And I totally understand about the unadventurous hubby thing.. I had one ...he's better now

Awesome, thanks! I can search around for it too

Yeah, my hubby is getting better-he even says, as long as I'm making something home cooked he'll eat. That's pretty good for him, as he's a "meat and taters" type person too. I've got a few new dishes on my meal planner for this week-I usually make a list of ten meals, and go to the store to pick up most of the things needed...

New this week, that I'm trying, is a Loaded, vegetable beef stew straight out of a Taste of Home magazine-I've made stew before, but this recipe is a little bit different, and looks awesome. Also making a homemade chicken pot pie, and a slow cooker salisbury steak recipe that sounds awesome

LOL That is eggsactly how I was raised! Only all those easy meals, my mom is unable to cook! I had to start learning to cook at 7 so that I could eat the stuff going in my mouth. Ive never tolerated pbjs, so that food wasn't a dinner option. lol
My kids wont eat those kind of easy meals either, so I had to start visiting this thread and reading cookbooks for insight instead of something to wish-I-could do. They also wont eat fast-food well either.
Good thing Jim knows how to cook, or at least watch what I'm doing to know whether I'm doing it right. He sat for years, watching his grandmother and her sister canning up all the fruits and veggies, baking breads, etc. It sure is a big help, I want to learn how to do all the right things so that I can help teach my girls when they are older. This is really important stuff to know, and we're losing it faster then learning.

You're welcome!

DH was eating ramen and fish sticks when I met him

I grew up cooking ..and eating home cooked meals, daily ...so he had to get used to me! LOL I don't even buy those things when I shop.. blah!

And yes... magazines are a great way to get ideas for new recipes. This thread is another great resource ..cuz you can get "tried and true" options ..rather than experimenting and ending up with take out

Another way I get ideas for our meals is, when we go out to eat occasionally.. a particular dish may be interesting enough ..so I'll come home and google it or ask here ..and then learn to make it myself. (I really have to do this anyway.. to avoid all the preservatives and things I am "allergic" to)

Happy cooking, Everyone!

BB... no worries about the indexing thing. I will look when I have more "gumption" to do so

From a full house over the weekend to "empty nest" tonight. Just DH and I, so cooking was easy since he eats anything.

Grilled baby beef liver topped with a mushroom sauce, blue cheese gnocchi crisped in butter, herbed green and wax beans with carrots and chocolate waffles with mint chocolate chip ice cream.

happy hen- How I would LOVE some calves liver!!! You haven't been able to buy that in store in CA for many, many years! I crave it about once a month and it is also very hard to find ANY beef liver at all in store around here. Take a bite for me.

cknmom.. try the indy butcher shops ..even the "ethnic" ones. I find it quite often, but I buy all of my meat from an actual "meat market" (or three.. I have my favorites

I didn't really cook tonight. I just did a plate of salami, cheeses, olives, pickles, crackers, chips and dip. We ate it in front of the t.v. and had coffee afterward. It was good, but several hours ago and now I'm hungry. lol
